What is School Success?

City Year Columbus Corps Members serve in schools from late September to late May. The School Success Program focuses on increasing the academic success of students in Columbus Public Schools in the following ways:

One-on-One Literacy Tutoring: City Year corps members work with students identified by their teachers as needing extra support to become successful readers and writers.

Whole class academic support: Along with one-on-one tutoring, corps members also work with their partnering teachers to provide academic support for the entire class.

Peaceful Play (during school recess): Corps members actively assist school staff to engage students in fun organized games and activities on the playground. Our goal is to help decrease conflict and violence during recess time and to encourage children to become peaceful problem solvers.

School-Specific Projects and Curricula: Working with school staff, corps members identify other ways to positively impact each school's environment.
